Establishment & History

The school of Business and Economics was established since the establishment of Dire Dawa University in 2007. The school started with three departments Accounting, Economics and management. Currently the school has seven departments (Accounting and Finance, Banking & Finance, Economics, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Management, Marketing Management and Public Administration and Development Management) in the under graduate program in regular and CEP programs.

The school of business and Economics had one summer program in General Business Education and is now the school is planned to start all the under graduate programs in summer program. Besides, the school of Business & Economics has started MSc since 2014 in two programs (Development Economics and Environmental & Natural Resource Economics). The school of Business and Economics is on the way to expand its post graduate programs in the field of Business. In the near future probably in 2015/16 academic year the school of Business and Economics will start MSc. & MA programs in Management, Public Administration & development management and other fields of business. Moreover, the school of Business and Economics were giving short term trainings on different issues which improve the capacity of the employees of different institutions and development endeavors in the administration and will continue for the future.

In 2014/15 Academic year more than 2600 students are enrolled and attending their education in regular, summer, extension and Masters Programs. Of which 1450 are in the regular undergraduate, 1060 are in the CEP undergraduate, 48 are in summer undergraduate and 45 students are in the post graduate class.

In the teaching learning, research and community service engagement about 85 instructors are participating and 19 staff members of the school re now on study leave of their PhD level.
