Dire dawa university computer science and electrical engineering departments have together held a robot soccer cup competition with the initiation of Icog makers initiative-an ICT private organization in Dire Dawa university at red hall.

The robot soccer cup competition was organized for the benefit of students who are attending their education both in computer science and electrical engineering at the university just by encouraging them to make use of the high technologies for very simple activities. This in turn would eliminate the wrong conception of using high tech only for advanced activities; for this reason, the Icog makers initiative is trying to make use of the high tech starting from grass root levels for instance in agriculture the robot is being used to identify the plant disease of coffee tree leaves.

According to the organizers from Icog makers initiative, the robot soccer cup competition was first started by Bahir Dar University, now in Dire Dawa university, and next in Mekele University

The vision of Icog makers initiative is to producing a large number of revolutionary businesses. Through the competition, it will help to establish the groups of makers community their own startup companies. It will also incubate and accelerate these start ups with a global vision. The project will also provide classes (short term training programmes on robotics).

The project starts the training by humanoid robot which means any being whose body structure resembles that of human head, legs, arms, and hands. But it also is a robot made to resemble a human both in appearance and behavior. The device between a robot and android is only skin deep, looks exactly like humans on the outside, but with internal mechanics of humanoid robot.
