PSIR is one of the programs in the curriculum of higher education institutions
in the country. The program has formulated its curriculum in line with the missions and visions
of MOE in general and the respective universities that offer the program in particular since
its inception. The curriculum has undergone through a series of revisions in order to cope up with major
developments at national, regional and global level.
Consequently, the department has revised its curriculum by taking into account the courses of the universities of USA, UK, South Africa, India, New Zealand, South Korea, and other institutions pertinent to the context of the country.
However, like all other disciplines, it faced challenges to produce the desired result due to the rigidity of its approach, its weakness to reconcile the world of education and the world of work.
In addition, it is short of satisfying the desire of our students to be able to choose. Lack of adequate resources and skilled man power (one who can entertain the discipline with the practical world) are also challenges of the Department.
To overcome such actual and potential challenges, it is imperative to take some proactive and corrective measures.
The rationale for revising this new curriculum and adopting the modularization approach is to address the constraints of the old one and providing quality education for our graduates. For this end, the modularization approach is considered as an immense tool to produce graduates who can solve problems, perform procedures, communicate effectively and be able to make rational decisions for the interest of the public at large. In addition, a maximum effort is made to incorporate the desires of stakeholders and customers and pursuing a much more transparent and accountable curriculum to learners and stakeholders. The department is preparing itself to adopt a competence based education. Hence, generic competencies and subject specific competencies are integral parts of this curriculum.
Courses are arranged, modified or adopted to increase the theoretical, practical, and subject related knowledge, skill and attitude of learners as well as to rise the capacity for analysis, synthesis, general knowledge, awareness of the national and international dimensions, capacity for independent learning, cooperation and communication and capacity for leadership.
The department believes that this curriculum is not the final one, but it can be improved, developed and enriched through the feedbacks that come from students, stakeholders and peer departments.
